English Language Instructor

The Strathclyde Maritime Institute of Engineering (SMIOE) at Dalian Maritime University (DMU) invites applications for English Language Instructor positions. Successful candidates will teach academic English to engineering students enrolled in international undergraduate programs.

Dalian Maritime University is one of China's leading institutions and is included in both the national "Project 211" initiative and the "Double First-Class" University Plan. Located in the coastal city of Dalian in northeast China, DMU provides an international learning environment where both Chinese and English are used as languages of instruction.

SMIOE is a Sino-foreign cooperative institute jointly established by Dalian Maritime University (China) and the University of Strathclyde (United Kingdom). The institute combines the engineering expertise and educational resources of the University of Strathclyde with DMU's strengths in maritime disciplines.

SMIOE currently offers the following undergraduate programs:

• Electronic and Electrical Engineering
• Manufacturing Engineering with Management
• Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering

The institute is committed to developing innovative and globally minded engineers capable of succeeding in the international maritime sector.

Responsibilities

• Teach academic listening, speaking, reading, and writing courses at various proficiency levels.
• Prepare students for internationally recognized English language examinations, including the Duolingo English Test, TOEFL, and IELTS.
• Contribute to the development of curricula, assessments, and teaching materials to maintain high standards of English language education.
• Participate actively in departmental meetings and support academic and program-related activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in TESOL, TEFL, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
• Preferably a minimum of three years of English teaching experience at the college or university level.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
• Curriculum development
• English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
• English for Specific Purposes (ESP) for STEM disciplines
• Assessment design and development
• Teacher training
• Academic writing and communication
• English-medium instruction (EMI)
• Educational technology
• Previous overseas teaching experience is highly desirable.
• Applicants holding a doctoral degree should demonstrate research publications in English language education or related fields.

Salary

• Salary will be determined based on qualifications and years of experience.
• Total monthly remuneration, including teaching-hour payments, may reach RMB 35,000.
