Job Title: Academic Writing Faculty
Department: Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College
Position Rank: Non-tenure track teaching position; ranks range from Assistant Teaching Professor to Associate Teaching Professor depending on experience.

Position Overview:
- SJTU Global College invites applications for full-time positions in Academic Writing, with opportunities to teach Intellectual Breadth courses.
- Faculty will teach highly-achieving students while contributing to program development within a diverse and collaborative faculty community.
- The College offers 100% English-based instruction and has received the prestigious Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education.
Courses:
- Academic Writing (AW): First-Year courses including Rhetoric and Critical Thinking (Fall) and Research Writing (Spring), focusing on academic writing principles, critical thinking, multi-draft processes, and research across disciplines.
- Intellectual Breadth (IB): Non-engineering general education courses that broaden students’ intellectual horizons.
Teaching Load & Schedule:
- Six courses per year, primarily Academic Writing; possible IB courses in Summer.
- Fall Trimester: 13 weeks, mid-September to early December
- Spring Trimester: 10 weeks, late-February to late-April (accelerated)
- Summer Trimester: 14 weeks, mid-May to early August
- Winter Vacation: early December to late February
- Summer Vacation: early August to mid-September
Responsibilities:
- Teach First-Year Academic Writing courses
- Prepare and conduct lectures, design assignments, and supervise examinations
- Maintain office hours and guide Teaching Assistants
- Maintain course websites with relevant teaching materials
- Participate in program development and other non-teaching service duties
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in a relevant discipline
- Minimum of two years of post-PhD full-time or equivalent university teaching experience in Academic Writing
- Experience designing self-standing, evidence-based First-Year Academic Writing courses
- Interest or experience in China and/or working with Chinese students
- Experience teaching non-native English speakers
