Lecturer of English for Academic Purpose

Introduction

Glasgow College, UESTC is a collaborative higher education institution established in 2013 by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) and the University of Glasgow (UofG). The College offers dual-degree undergraduate programs in Electronic Information Engineering, Communications Engineering, and Microelectronics — all delivered and assessed entirely in English.

The English Language (EL) curriculum is credit-bearing and a core component of the academic programs. Currently, the EL program serves over 1,300 undergraduate students in their first two years, focusing on English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to support their English-medium studies. In addition to teaching, staff benefit from a continuous professional development (CPD) program facilitated by University of Glasgow educators. Opportunities are also available in curriculum design, materials development, assessment, and teacher training.

We are currently seeking dedicated and experienced EAP professionals to support teaching and contribute to the development of the EL program.

Location

Qingshuihe Campus, UESTC / Hainan Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone Coastal Campus

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver up to 20 teaching hours per week (each session is 45 minutes)
• Prepare lessons and participate in regular planning meetings
• Conduct assessments, including standardization, grading, providing feedback, and participating in moderation
• Engage in teaching-related seminars and professional development sessions
• Undertake course-related administrative duties, such as coordination, materials review, and supporting student enrollment

Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferably in English, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field)
• Recognized teaching qualification (TeflI status), such as Cambridge CELTA, Trinity Cert TESOL, or equivalent including observed teaching practice
• At least two years of relevant teaching experience, ideally in an EAP setting
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively and under pressure

Desirable Qualifications

• TeflQ status: Cambridge DELTA, Trinity DipTESOL, or a relevant Master's degree (e.g., TESOL, ELT, Applied Linguistics)
• Experience teaching EAP to engineering or STEM students
• Proficiency in using educational technologies, including virtual learning platforms like Moodle

Note: Candidates should be available to start by the end of August.

• Monthly salary starting from 18,000 RMB (pre-tax), commensurate with qualifications and experience
