About the position:

We are looking for an instructor to teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses for engineering students. Depending on the applicant’s experience, a title of Assistant, Associate or Full Teaching Professor is offered.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver up to 6 classes per academic year, each requiring 3 to 4 academic hours of lectures and 2 hours of office hours per week (15-week term).
• Select and supervise student Teaching Assistants for grading, recitations, and administrative support.
• Participate in institutional activities such as curriculum development, committee service, and course evaluations.
• Optional collaboration with engineering, physics, and mathematics faculty is encouraged.

Remuneration and Benefits:

• Base salary starts at 380,000 CNY per annum for Assistant Teaching Professors, depending on experience and skills.
• Includes Chinese social security, standard fringe benefits, and medical insurance.
• Assistance with transitional apartment at preferential rent and/or housing benefit for rental accommodation.

Requirements:

• Doctoral degree in mathematics, physics, or a related field.
• Native-level English language skills (native speakers preferred).
• At least 2 years of post-PhD work experience (postdoctoral or teaching).
• Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate mathematics courses, including:
  • Single-variable and multi-variable calculus
  • Differential equations
  • Linear algebra
• Experience in more specialized subjects such as:
  • Probability theory and statistics
  • Numerical analysis
  • Discrete mathematics
  • Other advanced areas of mathematics
• Familiarity with computer algebra systems is an advantage.
• Additional background in physics, computer science, or engineering is also an advantage.
• Passion for teaching and willingness to reside in Shanghai for several years.
• Willingness to make a long-term commitment to teaching at SJTU, with opportunity for title progression in the non-tenure “Teaching Professor” track.
• Living experience in China and/or a personal connection to China is a plus.
