About the position:

We are looking for an instructor to teach undergraduate and graduate physics courses for engineering students. These may include a small number of laboratory-based courses. Depending on the applicant’s experience, a title of Assistant, Associate or Full Teaching Professor is offered.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver up to 6 classes per academic year, each requiring 3 to 4 academic hours of lectures and 2 hours of office hours per week (15-week term).
• Teach a limited number of laboratory-based courses (with slightly different teaching hours).
• Select and supervise student Teaching Assistants for grading, recitations, and administrative support.
• Participate in institutional activities such as curriculum development, committee service, and course evaluations.
• Optional research collaboration with engineering and physics faculty is encouraged.

Remuneration and Benefits:

• Base salary starts at 380,000 CNY per annum for Assistant Teaching Professors (depending on experience and skills).
• Includes Chinese social security, standard fringe benefits, and medical insurance.

Requirements:

• Doctoral degree in physics or a related field.
• Native-level English language skills (native speakers preferred).
• At least 2 years of work experience post-PhD (postdoctoral or teaching).
• Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate physics courses, such as:
  • Classical Mechanics
  • Electricity and Magnetism
  • Quantum Mechanics
• Experience with computer algebra systems and laboratory instruction is a plus.
• Additional background in mathematics or engineering is an advantage.
• Applicants should be passionate about teaching and willing to live in Shanghai for several years.
